For the year 2005, Ormoc City has a population of about 166,144 and probably will increase to 168,620 by 2006 considering a population growth rate of 1.49%. (See table 1.0). The city has a predominantly young population with about 24.63% in the 1–9 age bracket and 22.41% in the 10–19 age bracket which all in all represent a total of 47.04% of the city population. (See table 1.1).
There are 110 barangays in Ormoc City. Thirty-one are classified as urban barangays, sixteen are classified as coastal barangays and sixty-three are classified as rural barangays. The urban population comprises 18.38%, coastal population 24.20% and the rural population comprises 57.42% of the total population. The rural population has increased to 95,392 from 93,989 of the year 2004; followed by the coastal population, 40,208 from 39,619, and the urban population 30,544 from 30,097 of the previous year.
